Queen City Cayenne is on Food Network's The Best Thing I Ever Ate. It seems like ages and ages ago that they came to Columbus to film, but the episode finally airs this Friday, March 12th at 10PM EST!
In honor of Queen City Cayenne's TV debut, here's a little back story ...
Queen City Cayenne was actually the first flavor I ever made, before I went into business. In '95, I was making sweets at home, especially American favorites like pudding, gelatin, pies and ice cream. I wanted to remake these Americana classics using French techniques.
I made my first ice cream by adding cayenne essential oil to a store bought chocolate ice cream. When I served it at a party, people went crazy - it’s cold! It’s HOT! After that, all I could think of was ice cream. I couldn’t wait to make my next batch.Originally, I called this ice cream Mexican Hot Chocolate...but one day it occurred to me that Cincinnati chili - famously made with a hint of chocolate, cinnamon, and cayenne - was a closer-to-home reference. My Queen City Cayenne ice cream, made of the same ingredients, is a nod to our neighbor to the south (and one of our favorite cities) ... The Queen City, Cincinnati.
At home, I always put chocolate in my chili, too. You can do it with almost any recipe - just before serving, blend in about 1/2 bar of good quality bittersweet chocolate. You won't taste the chocolate, but the richness it imparts will have everyone guessing.
I recommend this chili recipe from Martha Stewart. I simply add a 1/2 bar of chocolate at the end, and a little more water if it gets too thick.
So, tune into Food Network tomorrow night and watch us make (and eat!) Queen City Cayenne. Can't wait! Be sure to tell us what you thought of the episode, right here on saltycaramel.com
woowoo! I'll be tuning in.

Saw the show tonight and I must say it made my mouth water. The thought of Cayenne and cinnamon in ice cream is, to me, heaven on earth. Just wish I could purchase some of it without driving up to Ohio (even though it IS only 12 hours one way) LOL. I tried the order page but could not get it to load. Oh well, there's always this summer when I get up that way.

I REALLY want to try the cayenne after watching the show. Then I want to try the rest of your flavors! I just love ice cream. The show was great! Right now I'm trying to figure out how to order online because it's too far for me to travel from Niagara Falls, NY. Maybe I'll have to plan a road trip this summer...?

I watched the show last night and I wanted to try the ice cream myself right then. So, how can I get this "Queen City Cayenne" ice cream at my supermarket or purchase it myself?

Wynetta, where do you live? We might be in a market near you. Otherwise, you can order Queen City Cayenne (and any additional flavors you would like to try!) on our website, at www.jenicecreams.com

I watched the show, ordered the Queen City for my sister in IN and myself in VA and of course 3 others delicious sounding flavors. We're trying them tonight, together, over the phone! I can't wait!

I really want to get some of your Queen City ice cream for my husband - he loves hot stuff and complains that ice cream is too sweet! What a surprise he will get!

I cannot wait to try this. I grew up in Columbus and live just west of Cincinnati, in historic Lebanon Ohio! I am a bit of a gormet home cook and will definitely serve this at my next spicy dinner party. I have alot of friends who are hot pepper conneseurs. My husband is huge on hot peppers too. This is going to be my next trip to Whole Foods to buy. I think it is calling me to make a trip tomorrow. I hope to hear more from you soon!
