When Matthew and Kasey over at Turntable Kitchen reached out a couple months back (thanks for the hookup, Faith) and asked if we wanted to collaborate on a Pairings Box, we were like: Hell yes.

As a general rule, whenever we find kindred spirts out there in the wild, we want to work with them and, as Faith said, this was right up our alley.

Now Available: Roasted Strawberry Buttermilk

The first full weekend of summer is upon us and with it arrives the return of one of our most popular perennials, Roasted Strawberry Buttermilk ice cream.

Available in pints and scoops in all shops (except, for the time being, German Village) and online, Roasted Strawberry Buttermilk is incredibly smooth and creamy, boasts ridiculously decicious strawberry taste, texture, and aroma, and will remind you of a bowl of fresh strawberries and cream.

Here's how we do it:

1. Buy whole plots of tiny, little jewel-like strawberries from farms in Tennessee (where the crops can be harvested a bit earlier inthe year) and Ohio (where we've worked with farmers for a decade).
2. Wash, top, roast (to concencrate the flavor), puree, and blend into buttermilk ice cream.
3. Pack by hand into pints, then freeze and serve.

Jeni's Pint Finder

The last couple years, we've been working hard to make it easier for folks who like the good stuff to get it, wherever they are. 

In the past, that usually meant shipping it right to your doorstep, which we still do (a lot). Giving a great gift—even to yourself—feels real good.

More recently, it's meant getting our pints onto the shelves of your favorite groceries and markets across the country.

Like all Gelson's and Bristol Farms in Southern California.

Or all 100-some Fresh Markets across 21 states.

Or all 17 Heinen's in Northeastern Ohio.

But we haven't necessarily done a great job of making it easy for you to find the closest places that carry our pints.

Until now.

Introducing our new Pint Finder.

You can find it on our website by clicking "Where to Buy" under the "Find Us" tab or by going directly to jen.is/pintfinder

On your first visit, a little pop-up—the exact location of which will depend on the browser you're using—will ask if you'd like to share your location with us. Don't worry, it's nothing sinister; it's just us asking, if you'll allow us, to use your IP address in order to automatically pre-populate for you the closest places you can find a Jeni's pint based on your current location.

If you'd rather not go that route, just enter your address, city, or zip code into the search box and you'll get results, sorted in order of proximity, for the closest places where you can find a Jeni's pint.

Couple things:

• We're still working out some kinks

• We'd love your feedback and suggetions for how we might make it better

• You guys are our eyes and ears out there—Team Jeni's. If you go to a location on this list and they don't have our pints, or they need to reorder, let us know. Likewise, if there are locations that aren't on this and should be, let us know. Etc.

Jeni's in Southern California

For as long as we've been packing up ice cream on dry ice and shipping it across the country to people's doorsteps, LA has been one of our top markets for mail order—behind only NYC and Chicago.

Despite the high cost of shipping it there: Somewhere in the neighborhood of $35-$40 per box, depending on the destination and number of pints, etc. 

All of which is to say A LOT of people in Southern California like our ice cream—and they've been paying a whole hell of a lot to get it.

Well, it's time to chalk one up in the win column for them.

As of late last week, all 17 of the Gelson's Market locations throughout SoCal have pints of Jeni's Splendid Ice Creams on the shelves.

They've got six flavors to start, priced at $10.99:

Team Jeni's Travels to Michigan, Shares Ice Creams

This past weekend, Team Jeni's competed in the Stony Creek mountain bike race on the edge of Detroit.

Mighty rider Patrice Lehocky (second from right, above) wrote this report on her blog:

"We had a 3-women 12hr relay team, coed 12hr relay team, and 2-man 6hr relay team. The course was fast and fun, smooth single track, wide bridges, super fast gravel, quick hills. I accidentally got off track on the first lap and did almost 16 miles instead of the 10.5 or so, but it was a fun lap and I finished it in 1:33. The next two were much harder than I would have ever anticipated, I definitely didn't intake enough (barely any) calories in the 2 off-hours between laps. My next laps (10.5 miles) came in at 1:16 and 1:12. Yeesh."

Patrice, may we suggest eating some of the ice cream you took to the race to share among all the racers? We can't think of anything better to replenish your energy stores.

Gnarly conditions out there in the woods, but pints are the reward at Team Jeni's HQ.

A very mountain-bike approach to replenishing the energy reserves: A bottle of Rogue Dead Guy Ale, two pints of Icelandic Happy Marriage Cake, and a can of the green stuff: Mountain Dew.

She Went Back to Ohio — With a James Beard Award in Hand

As Jeni makes her way back to Columbus this afternoon, everyone here at headquarters remains sky high about what happened this past Friday evening in New York City. That's when the James Beard Foundation honored Jeni's debut, Jeni’s Splendid Ice Creams at Home, top prize in the Cookbooks: Baking and Desserts category.

Since 1990, winning a James Beard Foundation Media Award has been America's most coveted honor for journalists, broadcast media, and authors writing about food and the culinary arts. The awards indeed are the Oscars of the food world, as Ladies' Home Journal put it.

"I like to say we make slow ice cream, and we wrote this book slowly, too,” said Britton Bauer during her acceptance speech. “It takes time to source the best ingredients and develop new flavors, so we wanted to take it slow and make sure this book featured only the best techniques and recipes we could create.”

With Jeni’s Splendid Ice Creams at Home (in its 6th printing since its June 2011 debut), Jeni sought to redefine the process of at-home ice cream making. As many of you already know, the user-friendly book instructs home cooks to produce creamy, scoop-shop quality ice cream.

Perhaps when Jeni returns she'll begin working on a follow-up? We'll all have to wait and see (and keep our fingers crossed).

Catch Jeni at the 6th Annual Ohioana Book Festival

The timing couldn't be better. Just off of her James Beard Award-winning jag to NYC, Jeni will be a featured guest Saturday, May 12 during the Ohioana Library's 6th annual Ohioana Book Festival, which celebrates Ohio's authors.

The festival wil ltake place from 10 a.m. to 4:30 at the Fort Hayes Metropolitan Education Center, 546 Jack Gibbs Blvd., near downtown Columbus and the Short North. Organizers promise live music, food carts and trucks (Jeni's Street Treats truck will be there!), exhibits, fun-loving crowds and, yes, "books—lots and lots of books!"

Admission is free; no tickets or advance registration is required.
