For as long as we've been packing up ice cream on dry ice and shipping it across the country to people's doorsteps, LA has been one of our top markets for mail order—behind only NYC and Chicago.
Despite the high cost of shipping it there: Somewhere in the neighborhood of $35-$40 per box, depending on the destination and number of pints, etc.
All of which is to say A LOT of people in Southern California like our ice cream—and they've been paying a whole hell of a lot to get it.
Well, it's time to chalk one up in the win column for them.
As of late last week, all 17 of the Gelson's Market locations throughout SoCal have pints of Jeni's Splendid Ice Creams on the shelves.
They've got six flavors to start, priced at $10.99:
- Salty Caramel
- Brambleberry Crisp
- Dark Chocolate
- Brown Butter Almond Brittle
- Lemon Frozen Yogurt
- Whiskey & Pecan
And they even whipped up a pretty kick-ass cling for their freezer doors, so you know exactly what to look for:

Nice, right?
Thanks for all the love, SoCal. This one's for you.

Lovely! I haven't seen any Jeni's in San Francisco, but I'm hopeful. (At least, the flavors I can't make from the cookbook. :))

Fantastic news for a recent transplant!!!!!

@Jennie: There are a handful of spots where you can buy pints in the Bay area. The formatting's a little jacked up at the moment, but you can find them here: http://jen.is/mWY1KD. (We'll be releasing a revamped pint-finder later this week that'll make it a whole lot easier to find the closest place.)

Congratulations on the James Beard Foundation Award. And here's hoping your ice cream comes our way in central Wisconsin where we love good ice and good ice cream. :)

This is so exciting! Thank you for bring Jeni's to this side of the country. Will Gelsons be carrying seasonal flavors in the future? Congrats too on your James Beard award! - Lili

@lili: Can't say for sure about Gelson's and seasonal flavors... depends on a number of variables. Thanks for the kind words :)
