Weekend warriors: Jeni's truckers R.J. Lemrye, Corey Miller, Steven Sutters, Ian Bates and Nick Unger.
We've always loved bringing the Splendid Ice Creams straight to the people but this summer we're bringing the goods full force. We're armed with gleaming new trailers and carts and many new tireless employees. (We also now own something called a Bajaj; more on that in a moment).
Check it out: Jeni's Splendid Ice Creams crews will be at your service at no fewer than four premiere Ohio events today, Saturday and Sunday.
First: The Community Festival, a.k.a., Comfest, in Goodale Park in the Short North. Man alive, our customers have spoken this year and we're expecting a ton of them to turn out for big fun in the 90-degree sun, so much so that we've upped our, shall we say, "cart presence" from two to, count 'em, three carts.
More than 250 buckets of Jeni's freshest favors are ready to be dished out today through Sunday at the Community Festival in Goodale Park. That's more than 6,000 scoops to be enjoyed in cups and cones and in those supernaturally delicious Frost Top rootbeer floats. Our inexhaustible kitchen team has been working overtime and then some. The Comfest allotment is so immense that we've had to stow it in a vast off-site deep-freeze, the one and only Dick Cold Storage.
Second: Cincinnati-area Jeni's fans, be sure to arrive at the Madeira Centennial Criterium ready to take in some top-shelf cycling and ice cream. One of our brand-new Jeni's carts is stocked and on its way to the greater Queen City area as you read this. The action gets under way at 5 this afternoon. Read all about all the details here.
Third: You know what a guy on a bike looks like. How about a guy in a Bajaj? Sunday at the Tour de Grandview meet Clark Deringer, a fireman, Capital City Scooters employee and the captain of our fancy three-wheeler—the Bajaj. Clark will be making his debut in the mini truck atop the hills of Grandview and he'll be selling our new on-the-go offering: the half-pint, a.k.a., "the underbite", a.k.a. "the split".
The all-afternoon action, which is free to take in, features more than 100 pro and amateur cyclists zipping up and down the scenic west side of Grandview's hills and it all will get under way at 11:45 a.m.
Fourth: A Sunday evening for our mobile crew means one thing if the Sunday evening in question falls between this Sunday June 27 and Sunday July 25: we take the Jeni's show on the road to the 27th annual Dublin Arts Council's Sundays on the Scioto Concert Series from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. in Scioto Park, 7377 Riverside Dr. (just north of the I-270 overpass and south of Hard Road) in Dublin.
Admission is free and guests are encouraged to bring lawn chairs, blankets, picnic dinners and a hankering for Jeni's ice cream and those fabulous Frost Top root beer floats. Bottled water and soft drinks also will be for sale in the shadow of Leatherlips, the esteemed Wyandot chief.
The lineup for the remainder of the series that stars excellent bands in the park's amphitheater includes: the Westminster Faculty Jazz Quartet (June 27); the Brass Band of Columbus (July 4); the self-described "rustbucket rock" of the Spikedrivers (July 11); Eric Dove & GreenLightGo's country rock (July 18); the pop-rock stylings of British Invasion (July 25).
So, come on out, say hello and enjoy the first full weekend of summer and the best ice cream you'll ever taste!
No one can degrade us except ourselves; that if we are worthy, no influence can defeat us. What do you think?
