THE NEW SIGNATURE FLAVOR AT JENI'S: UGANDAN VANILLA BEAN ICE CREAM.
Jeni's aficionados already know the score, but today the news becomes official: Ugandan Vanilla Bean Ice Cream is the new Honey Vanilla Bean Ice Cream, and from here on out the exotic offering will be one of our Signature Flavors. That's right: exotic vanilla ice cream.
To the uninitiated, a news flash regarding vanilla ice cream might not register more than a blip on one's radar of daily concerns. But, as anyone who has tasted any Jeni's flavors knows, equal amounts of thought, time, care and rare ingredients are put into making something as seemingly unassuming as a vanilla ice cream as, say, more peacock-ish delights such as Roxbury Road or Ylang Ylang Honeycomb.
We began making Ugandan Vanilla Bean Ice Cream a few years ago and since then have intermittently offered it as a seasonal flavor. (Since late last fall, it's been part of our Hats Off Collection.) And while Honey Vanilla Bean Ice Cream is delicious in its own right, Ugandan Vanilla Bean Ice Cream elevates one of ice cream history's basic flavors to marquee status.
Made with sea salt, Ohio honey and vanilla (bought directly from Lulu Sturdy and our friends at her fair-trade-certified Ndali Estate in southeast Africa), our Ugandan Vanilla Bean Ice Cream is heady, pure comfort and borderline narcotic.
As with coffee, wine and chocolate, vanilla strongly takes on the characteristics of the land in which it grows. The majority of vanilla beans used throughout the world come from Madagascar. The Ugandan varietal we're using accounts for less than one percent of vanilla grown on Earth. With round, bold, deep flavor, and hints of leather, tobacco, jasmine, and amber, the beans are perfectly balanced.
Next time you're in one of our shops, sample as many flavors as you want to, but make sure to ask for a taste of Ugandan Vanilla Bean.
