Friends,
With Cupid set to draw his bow February 14, every one of us will be looking for that sure-fire way to measure our affection for our sweethearts.
So, I pose this question: Is there a simpler means of gauging passion on Valentine’s Day than sharing an ice cream cone?
I think not.
What flavor your lover chooses, and how he or she goes about devouring a scoop of ice cream says everything without uttering a single word. Standing before an ice cream case jam-packed with equally divine options, what flavors do they go after? Are they open to those new, wild, and imaginative tastes?
Or, do they lean toward the traditional, the tried-and-true? Do their eyes lock on something spicy (Bangkok Peanut), or something ambrosial (Ylang Ylang Honeycomb)? Do their cravings call for Ugandan Vanilla--something pure and sweet, something that says, “A kiss goodnight for you. Call me in the morning.”
Do they yearn for Cherry Lambic--something the hue of surging, red-hot blood, something that says, “Call me everything but the name my mama gave me.”
Do they approach it nimbly with prim lips pursed, or do they bare teeth and mount an unbridled attack? Do they daintily dab the corners of their mouths with napkin after napkin, or are they confident in the messiness of this sweet, sweet business at hand? Are they timid? Timid ain’t bad. Timid can be cute, it can be adorable.
Or, are they bold? Do they take charge? Do they make you blush? Sweat? See those otherworldly stars?
Yes, ice cream, the most romantic and potent of aphrodisiacs, and it'll make you a seer. You can use to figure out if you can see yourself with a person 50 years from now or not even five more minutes. It’s true. I’ve been at this for more than 15 years and I’ve seen every expression on an ice cream eater’s face you can dream of, and nothing is sexier than a shared cone, because ice cream engages all the senses.
Valentine’s Day is serious business around here, and each time it rolls around I try to dream up the most enticing ice creams I can. One of the new ones available online now (and in shops Friday Feb. 11), Violets & Meringue, is part of the new Bakeshop Collection, and it would stand out even among an ice cream bouquet that includes Wildberry Lavender, Dark Chocolate, Honey Vanilla Bean, and Riesling Poached Pear.
So, look. If a date with that arrangement of ice creams doesn’t seal the deal nothing will. Believe it!
To more pleasures and the enjoyment of each other,
jeni
Lovely, airy little stars, on their way into another batch of Violets & Meringue Ice Cream:
All these flavors look great, but my favorite is missing. :( Are you guys going to have Cocoa Zinn this winter?

Hey there and thanks for reading. Cocoa Zin won't make an appearance this winter, but perhaps it will later this year. In the meantime, I hope you'll try one of the new seasonal flavors. You just might have a new favorite.

My husband I saw a food network special that featured the Queen City Cayene flavor, and he's dying to try it out. I was thinking of ordering this for Valentine's Day, but the website says orders received after Wednesdays @ noon EST will be delivered Tues or later of the next week. Being that Valentine's Day falls on a Monday this year, is your team trying to get them out earlier?
